Can I Install Windows Myself?

Window installed in family room - Denver

Windows are with you from the beginning of your home owning adventure. Whether you get the default model windows or you go for more of an upgrade, you’ve got windows when you first walk into your home, but they’re not going to last forever. Like paint on the home, shudders, squeaky door hinges, creaking boards, and other parts of the home, they’ll eventually need to be replaced. So, what do you do when it comes time?

Well, first off know whether or not you need to replace them. Windows can be a little bit strange sometimes and it doesn’t always mean you need new ones. But if you’ve got a window making a lot of noise, letting in drafts, have visibly damaged frames, are difficult to open or close, and/or have condensation cracks then you likely need to change them out. And once you know that, you can move onto the next phase.

Where to Go to for an Install?

It may be tempting to try and do it yourself, but your windows are incredibly tricky and a lot can go wrong if you try to change out windows on your own. An installation pro doesn’t just do the hard labor for you, they can also help you decide what you need right from the jump. Is it a window in need of change or simply slightly damaged and easily fixed? What type of windows can actually be installed and what’s considered an upgrade? A professional can help you answer all these questions and JDI Windows wants to be that professional.

When is the Best Time to Book an Installation?

Winter is not the time to get windows installed in Denver, but sometimes it can’t be helped, and installing in the winter isn’t impossible. There are some parts of the winter that can help the process, including keeping pests and bugs out of the process and the usual level of debris. While it’s not ideal, it can be done and can help your winter energy bills when it comes to keeping your home warm.

Fall is a good time to get the window installation done and out of the way as a way of winterizing your home and doing general home repairs before snow and cold set in. You’ll get more bugs and debris as residue from the job but you’ll feel the process a lot less with the slightly better temperatures and it’s more preferred than a wintertime install.

Spring and summer are ideal. Many people make this part of their spring cleaning when they notice the worn windows can take over the winter months. Summer is among our busiest times of year for window installations but there’s no shortage of hands to help get your installation done.
