The old adage states that eyes are the windows to the soul, well if that’s true about eyes, than the windows of your home mean much more than just a source of light. Windows can make a dramatic statement to the appeal and design of your home. They also can help energy costs. Windows also provide an escape route, should an emergency occur. With windows providing so many benefits, choosing the right one can be vital.

With so many options, for the window market, it can be overwhelming to know what you should choose, but we at JDI Windows have provided a list of popular and unique windows that you may consider for your home.

Awning

Awning windows are hinged at the top and open outward. They are perfect for above or below another window or above a door. These windows provide extra ventilation and light.  These windows can open and close with a simple turn of a handle.

Bay

Bay (or Bow) windows are a combination of windows. They pop outward into the world, giving a fuller view of your surroundings.  These windows can make even the smallest wall space open and light. Bay windows are generally a fixed window with a choice of ventilation windows on the side that can open. Bow windows are usually four windows put together in an attractive curve in any combination of picture and ventilation.

Casement

Casement windows open outward on a single hinge. They provide a full few, without any supports impeding your view. The fact that they swing outward means that a cool breeze can flow through your home on warm days, but they seal tight providing protection from the elements. They are easy to operate and will add visual appeal to any home.

Double Hung

Double hung windows have two openable panes. The top pane opens to let the hot air out, while the bottom pane opens to allow cool air in. These windows provide excellent ventilation.

Picture

Picture windows do not open. They have an unimpeded view and are perfect for letting in lots of natural light and visibility for a great view.

Single Hung

Single hung windows are just like double hung windows, but only the bottom pane opens. These windows are timeless and easy to use.

Sliding

Sliding windows are easy to open and are perfect for those hard to reach areas. They are idea for over the sink, above the couch and other hard to reach areas.

Besides the style of window, the frame of the window should also be taken into consideration. Each frame type will offer features and options to your window.

Wooden

Wooden window frames look clean, timeless, and create a beautiful look to your home; however, unless you are required to have wooden frames for historical preservation, these are not recommended due to Colorado’s climate.

Vinyl

Vinyl windows are easy to care for. They don’t need to be painted and have easy upkeep. These windows are durable and will look great for years.

Fiberglass

Like vinyl, fiberglass doesn’t need to be painted or stained. It is low maintenance and will last for years and can endure the extreme weather changes of Colorado.
