The Different Types of Picture Windows

Denver Picture Windows – What Are They?

Denver Picture WindowsWindows bridge the gap between the interior of your home and the outdoors.  Windows bring light into your home and allow you to have a view of the outside from within the comfort of your home.  To frame a particularly beautiful view or allow maximum natural light into a large room with a room with a tall ceiling, a picture window is often the perfect choice.

What Is a Picture Window?

Picture windows are fixed windows, meaning they do not open.  They come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes and are often used in homes with high or vaulted ceilings.  They feature large panes of glass that frame an unobstructed view and allow natural light to fill the room.

Energy Efficiency

Because Denver picture windows allow large amounts of natural light to enter a room, they assist in heating the home in winter as the sunlight warms the room.  In addition, because picture windows do not open, they form a tighter seal and allow less air to escape and enter the home.  Both features reduce energy costs.

Single Pane Picture Windows

One type of picture window is the single pane picture window.  Single pane picture windows are formed with one pane of glass which offers a stunning, unobstructed view of the outdoors.  However, because they are formed from only one pane of glass, single pane windows are more fragile than other types of picture windows.  If any portion of the window is damaged, the whole window must be replaced, rather than one portion or pane.

Double Pane Picture Windows

Double pane picture windows are formed with two pieces of glass with an airtight, sealed space between them.  They’re studier than single pane picture windows and offer greater insulation and energy efficiency.  Because they’re thicker, they also offer more noise reduction.

Multiple Paned Picture Windows

Multiple paned picture windows are formed from many pieces of small glass and resemble a classic window style.  They are sturdier than single pane picture windows and have reduced maintenance costs.  If one pane is damaged, only that pane needs to be replaced, rather than the entire window.
