5 Steps to Prepare for Your Window Installation
Preparing For A Denver Window Company
It’s a date! You’ve met with our amazing experts, planned out what windows you want and you are chomping at the bit to get those new fancy windows installed. Before your trusted Denver window company can come and install your windows, there a few things to keep in mind to make the process easier.
1)Time it out
The old adage: “timing is everything” is especially true with window installation. You may want windows installed before your big party, but if it’s going to be rainy or snowy the week before, you may want to plan for after. While new windows will save you significantly on energy costs, the time between taking out the old windows and putting in the new ones can let in the great outdoors.
Try to schedule your window replacement in a cooperative weather month, not too hot, not too cold, windy or rainy (and snowy).
2)Clean it up
The room your new windows in is going to need to be cleaned out before the windows come. Start by moving all furniture by the window. Make a path so that there is easy access in and out of the room and to the window. Take down any window covers like blinds and curtains.
Besides furniture and window coverings, you may also want to remove any rugs or other potential hazards. If you don’t have a place to store all the things you need to move or remove, consider renting a storage pod until the job is completed.
If you have pets or small children, keep them out of the way during this process. It would be terrible if a large window was dropped on Mitten’s head or if Bradly was stepped on while windows were moving in and out.
3)Clear it out
Windows deal with both interior and exterior for installation. The room inside may be bare as a newborn baby, but the space outside the window can be trouble. You may love your bright pink flamingo and cleaver lawn gnome but they can make it difficult to put in a window.
Check the outside of your home for things like lawn decorations, wreaths, Christmas lights, or other items that could get in the way of installation. If you are getting second story windows installed, scaffolding will need to be put up to keep everyone safe and enable the instillation.
4)Cover it up
You know that couch you spent five hours picking out? Or maybe those amazing hardwood floors you just had to have? Well those and other precious items around your home could be casualties of war in the window instillation. While we will put covers down to protect things, you know better than anyone else how much protection you want.
Feel free to cover the floors, windows, and anything else in the room you want to protect as your Denver window company works.
5)Open it up
You’ve got your home ready and prepped for the window installation. You were too exited to sleep. In the morning you rush off to work with a skip in your step and a smile on your face, after all, today’s the big day. Window day.
Unfortunately, we show up and can’t get in to install the windows. Window day is ruined! Alright, that last bit was a little dramatic, but the rest is true. Windows can only be installed if we have access to your home.
You may need to either take the day off or give the neighbor your key to let us in when we arrive. We will need to be outside and inside to take out the old and bring in the new. If you have home security system, you also will want to turn it off. No need for the police to show up for window day.
Window Day can be a magical and exciting day, especially if you prepare for your Denver window company’s arrival. If you need more advice on how to best prepare for Window Day, contact our specialists at JDI windows today.
